It was the first computer designed and produced industrially in Portugal. It was designed at the Department
of Electrical Engineering at the University of Coimbra, by the group that created the Department of
Informatics Engineering, in collaboration with the Department of Physics.

The project began in 1980 and in 1983 it was presented on the market by the company Enertrónica, from
Figueira-da-Foz. That year, he won the 1st Innovation Prize, awarded by the sector's industry.
It was very competitive, with close to a hundred copies sold, but the company did not have the
financial capacity to respond to the numerous orders and closed at the end of 1985. But the computer
did not die, and gave rise to UNIC.

Influence of Ener on the development of DEI
The ENER project is at the genesis of DEI, CISUC and LIS-IPN. This project is at the origin of the three
areas of activity of the IT at the University of Coimbra:
TEACHING
In teaching, the DEI (Department of Informatics Engineering of the UC Faculty of Science and
Technology), created in 1995.
Investigation
In research, CISUC (Center for Informatics and Systems of UC), created in 1991, where it gave rise to
research groups in Reliable Systems (Software and Systems Engineering) and in Computer Networks
(Communications and Telematics), and it greatly influenced the genesis of all the others.
UNIVERSITY OUTREACH
In university outreach, the LIS-IPN (Informatics Laboratory and Systems of the Pedro Nunes Institute),
created in 1993.
He also had a direct influence on the creation of reference companies, such as Critical Software, Feedzai
and Wit Software.
